Invite Neighbors for a Joyful Thanksgiving Celebration

Recently, I posted on Nextdoor inviting neighbors who might be spending Thanksgiving alone to join us at my ranch for a spot at our table. I extended the offer to share the holiday with my mother, my boyfriend, and me. The response was overwhelming—not from people wanting to join us, but from those who were amazed by the gesture.

The truth is, both my mother and I have always had a soft spot for people who don’t get to experience the joy of a “normal” holiday season. Growing up, I often found myself in the hospital during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even my birthdays. Those experiences made me value the simple yet profound act of being surrounded by warmth, love, and good company during the holidays.

When Darryl, my late fiancé, was alive, I learned just how impactful creating a meaningful Thanksgiving could be. Early in our relationship, I found out that Darryl had never experienced a peaceful, happy Thanksgiving due to family issues. His mother, older brother, and uncle (when he was alive) often brought tension to the table, leaving the holiday anything but joyful. Darryl shared how deeply he wished his grandmother, who was in her 90s at the time, could have one happy Thanksgiving before she passed.

The next year, I made it my mission to fulfill that wish. I invited his grandmother, his mother, his brother, and his sister-in-law to join us for Thanksgiving. For the first time, Darryl experienced what a happy, drama-free Thanksgiving felt like. It was such a simple act, yet it meant the world to him—and to me. To this day, I am so grateful that I could give him that special memory before he passed away.

Inviting others to join our table has nothing to do with the fact that I don’t speak to 95% of my family—it’s simply who I am. Making the holidays magical for others, whether it’s through small gestures or grand ones, brings me joy. Helping thoughtful wishes come true, especially for those in need of kindness and connection, is my way of spreading holiday cheer.

To anyone reading this, I hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving filled with love, warmth, and moments to cherish. And if you ever find yourself alone during the holidays, know that my table will always have a seat open for you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
